Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing scanner I have just finished scanning 2000 slides, some dating back 80 years. This scanner did a great job in record time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but versatile. Not many options today for a scanner that will do slides, 35mm and 6x6 film and pictures. Fortunately this scanner will do all of that. The pluses - it will deliver great results, especially with slides. The Epson Scan software is easy to use (I was scanning in 15-minutes after it was up and running) To be fair, I did have to download the latest version updates, but once that was done everything connected and worked as planned. And the results a beautiful. The minuses - the dust removal settings struggle a bit and if you set them to "high" the occasionally odd things will happen (I had a few pupils register as dust so it tried to "correct" that, as well as an entire row of port holes on a ship all got masked and "fixed". Honestly the best thing to do with dust is to clean the slides before then get scanned as best you can. Another thing is the optional Silverfast software - the learning curve was much steeper than the Epson Scan and considering the results I was getting I just gave up on it for now. So bottom line, very happy with the way it works and the images are fantastic. BTW, I ended up choosing the V800 over the V850, but if you are going to do a ton of work then having the extra slide and film holders will help make the process more efficient - because scanning takes a while at high settings and it helps to be be able to clean and load the next holder while waiting. I can't speak to the image quality of the 850, but I find it hard to imagine it could be that much better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use, not so easy to figure out I have had my V800 photo scanner for about 3 weeks. Set up was easy, but the user manual is sorely deficient. I have had to call customer service several times to get answers to questions. It’s hard to find the help number, but it is worth the effort as the customer service reps are both very helpful and very knowledgeable. The quality of the scan and ease of use are great. I am still trying to determine what size file I prefer for archiving, which is a personal choice. As well as which source I prefer, actual photos or the color negatives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best since my HP 4c I own MANY slides and negatives that for DECADES I have struggled to scan. Starting at the dawn of computer photo imagery, I bought HP's 4c, then 4p, then photosmart. Those scanners survived and out performed all of the off the shelf usb scanners that followed for years, but I never was able to get the really good scans I was chasing. Finally, this Epson Perfection V800 has the settings that make home slide and negative scanning just barely affordable. The height adjusting holder trays allow a fine focus of the negative that wasn't there before, the dual lenses make it possible to have both transparency and flatbed scans. And the IR Dust removal is nothing short of magical. I'm using this with the SilverFast 8 software, and FINALLY scanning is manageable without hours of tweaking. I recommend the Nick Carver videos for further information.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best! My Epson V800 is about five years old and one of the best purchases I've ever made. Worth every penny. In my photo restoration business, I work with 4"x5" vintage negatives. Newer photo scanners accommodate film strips, but not larger negatives, so when my old scanner died, I was in a panic. Then I found the Epson V800, and I was in business again. Epson makes the only large-negative scanner. I confess, I don't use film holders; I put my photos and negatives right on the glass (carefully!). The V800 software is fine for everyday stuff, but I do my corrections with Photoshop. For professionals, I recommend this as the only way to go. The results are the best, never disappointing. My customers rave about the "new" prints they get after I've scanned their old, faded negatives and photos. I LOVE my V800 and recommend it to professionals, enthusiasts, and amateurs.
