My experience with the printer so far:\n\nDyspeptic: It will randomly spit out paper after print jobs (so a lot of 1-page print jobs end up with 2 pages popping out) and/or when I shut it down. And I do mean random: I never know if it'll spit out a piece of paper when I shut it down for the night. (Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.)\n\nUnreliable in the up-take: Sometimes the paper loads up just fine, sometimes it doesn't. To fix the \"paper jam,\" I have to pull out the paper tray 2, 3, 4 times to restraighten the paper in the tray (over and over) and see if it'll please, please feed through this time. Eventually it does.\n\nI doubt it's a matter of user-failure (though that's always a possibility). Before and after purchasing I looked up all the common problems related to this issue. Maybe I got a dud for a refurb, but it's temperamental at best.\n\nSometimes a load of paper will print out several print jobs over several days with no problems. Sometimes a load put in the exact same way will have a problem with every print. Sometimes the load of paper that was printing fine for a few jobs or even days will suddenly have a \"paper jam\" (uptake) problem and need reloading.\n\nOne interesting thing: Once it starts to print okay, it usually continues to print subsequent jobs okay for a time. Once I shut it down and turn it back on, the paper jam issue starts up again. This is one reason why I know it's not a user-problem with loading, as there is no change with the paper in the tray (i.e., I don't touch it) from the time it is working and shut down on one day, and the time it is started up again for another job on the next.\n\nDouble-sided printing: Double-sided printing is a manual job (taking out the job when one side is finished, then opening the paper tray and reinserting those pages so they can be printed on the other side). Aside from annoyance inherent in manual double-sided printing, the uptake problem exacerbates this kind of printing, since I have to open and restock the tray for the other side of the double-sided print. If just one page fails to feed properly (which happens often), that messes up the rest of the print job. I have had a lot of paper wasted because of this.\n\nColor settings are \"grade-inflated\": The default \"good\" setting should really be named the economy setting (who knows how bad the actual \"economy\" setting is), as the \"good\" setting prints with visible regular striations/striped gaps in its attempt to save ink. I have to bump it up to the \"fine\" setting just to get normal looking printing.\n\nEven when I bump it up to \"quality\" (the highest setting), the color isn't as rich nor the blacks as black as what I would get from my 10+year-old Windows XP compatible HP printer. On this Epson on the \"quality\" setting, a solid black comes out more as a grey.\n\nIn addition to selecting the \"quality\" setting for printing, I had to put the paper type on \"premium photo paper glossy\" to get the same quality of results as from my old HP printer. At least with these settings, I was able to match the quality of my old printer, so that's good.\n\nLoud: It's fairly loud when it prints. That's not a big issue (except when I printed at night time and it would wake a barely-asleep infant or toddler, which is a little annoying --- I don't make that mistake any more). I'm just noting it for those interested in whether it is quiet or loud.\n\nWhen I do print with the settings adjusted (always higher than the default), and when the paper does take up properly, the results have been very good. And the print speed is good. The quality is first rate. Very fast and not as noisy as my last printer, an HP. It was easy to set up and connect to my wireless network. The only disappointment is that it does not automatically do 2 sided printing. You have to manually load each individual sheet to have it copy on side 2. The main reason I chose this printer is because the scanning bed is the largest I could find without going for architectural-size equipment and it takes 11x17 size paper. I also do lots of color scanning for Issue Authority and translations of publishing work. The automatic feeder takes 30 pages at a time and if you keep feeding it, it can actually scan a larger amount of document pages. It is user friendly and it is easy to install and learn how to use all the settings. When I first got it the prints came out a little dark. After changing a few settings the pictures come out just how they show on my screen. It prints very quickly for simple text documents, but make sure not to use the highest quality print settings unless absolutely needed. The higher your print quality, the faster you will run out of ink. Overall this is one of the best printers I've used. The borderless printing works very well. The paper cassette holds up to 250 sheets of up to 13\" x 19\" paper, which is great for large photos. It can print up to 13\" x 44\" using the custom settings, which works great for panoramics and posters. The large scan bed can scan and copy up to 11\" x 17\", perfect for scanning in sketches and books. The wireless printing works great, but the wireless scan has proven difficult to get to work consistently. I'm sure that's a problem with my slow internet and not the printer.
