Another great feature is that the tanks do not overfill, and the ink will stop flowing into the printer when it is full, leaving the remainder in the sealed bottle for future use. \r\n\r\nThe other key difference was that while I was still able to print over wifi, I am also able to print truly remotely.  The printer has a dedicated email address and whatever you email to it will print and be waiting for you when you get there. I LOVE that it sends me an email response to let me know when the printer receives the message and another when the print job has been successfully completed. \r\n\r\nAs far as things that could be done better go; they are few and far between.  I would have appreciated an app that was just better.  I was unable to successfully print through the app once remotely — not a huge deal, as I have the emailing option, but I would like it to work since it exists. My second minor note is that there is not automatic paper feed for scanning.  It doesn’t come up often for me, as I rarely need to scan more than a couple pages, but I could see it being a problem if that was something that was done often.  Otherwise, my biggest complaint is the lcd menu screen.  It is TINY - like, put-on-my-glasses tiny. I used wifi to setup the printer. I wanted to use the setup on the printer itself. I have a dual band router with 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands. I wanted to test the print quality, so I printed some colorful pages, as well as a resume and a formal letter. Quality is crisp and looks like it was printed from a large office printer, but from a compact home printer. I really like that I no longer have to deal with cartridges which saves money and trips to the store since the ink containers are big and last a really long time. They are also recyclable which is also a plus. It was so easy to connect it to our Wi-Fi following the instructions in the little screen, making it so easy to print from the laptop and phone. \r\nOne of the most amazing features is that I can connect it to Alexa and I can print anything using only my voice. The program for the computer is easy to use, and even easier to install, you just follow the instructions and you are ready to scan anything. In summary, it is a good basic printer. The unit it is physically small and prints well. Pros include four-function capabilities (print, copy, scan, and fax), economical use of ink, an auto-document feeder, good standard and photo prints, good copy / scans, a good smartphone app, and support for Epson Email Print and Epson Remote Print. Cons included a minuscule 1x1 inch control screen that is hard to read, paper feeding that utilizes a feeder but has no storage tray, manual but no automatic double-sided printing, and a scanning module that requires elevated administrator access to use (maybe it was my setup?). Another fact to consider is the printer supports 2.4 GHz WiFi networks but not 5 GHz networks, something that may or may not be an issue for you. The ET-4700’s software suite includes Optical Character Recognition (OCR), used to create searchable PDF files.\r\n\r\nSo how well does it work? To begin with, this printer uses an unusual method of loading and storing ink. Instead of using ink cartridges, users empty contents of ink bottles into four EcoTanks, one per color. I was worried this might be complicated and sloppy, but learned it was quite the opposite. Each tank is keyed to work with only a single color bottle and the bottles did not spill a drop during the filling process. When done, you snap the tank’s cover closed and you are ready to go. Completing setup was straightforward. I experienced no issues printing from a PC or iPhone, the latter using Epson’s free ‘Epson iPrint’ app. So far, I have printed ~50 pages of various qualities and have not observed any depletion in ink tank levels, which is consistent with expectation of high ink capacities. Copies were easy to make and even complicated multi-column scans with pictures returned PDFs that were mostly searchable, fooled only by unusual fonts or colors. You can also perform all four functions from the ET-4700’s front panel. Following the quick setup guide the first step of filling the ink tanks was made easy as the ink bottles tops are keyed so they only fit into the color tank you are trying to fill and once the tank is full the ink flow automatically stops. Once full you power up the printer and prime the tank, which takes only a few minutes to do. Final software setup of the printer went smoothly and only took a total of about 30 minutes.\r\n\r\nOnce setup you have options for Epson Connect and also the Epson iPrint App for printing remotely and also from mobile devices. Epson Connect allows you to set up an email for your wireless connected printer which allows you to email documents, emails, and photographs from anywhere. Epson iPrint allows you to easily print from your mobile device locally or remotely. iPrint even allows you to print from cloud services I use on my device.\r\n\r\nI have been using this printer now for a couple of weeks and it functions as it should. Copy, scan, print and fax all produce clear outstanding documents and photos are crisp and sharp. Ink dries very fast with no spots or streaks.\r\n\r\nEco Tank printers are more of an investment up front, but no more ink cartridges to buy and the printer comes with approximately 2 years supply of ink. This all in on printer comes with four large bottles of ink.  I was able to fill each tank without any effort at all. Each tank has a color coded label and the easy fill nozzle allows for the ink to flow into each tank and stops automatically when it is full. There is no mess, or fumbling trying to get a cartridge snapped in. The front windows on each tank allows you to see when the ink is getting low so you know when to refill. \r\n\r\nDownloading the printer to my computer was very simple with the included download link. It made for a quick simple process, which got me up and running in just a few minutes. Being able to input my wifi password without having to run any cables made it very nice. There is a lot packed into this printer considering its small foot print. Printer, flatbed scanner, and auto feed scanner, Fax, and of course, wireless interactions. \r\nOne of the best parts of this little giant is the ink. It uses Epson’s eco tank system. Now if you haven’t used one of these systems, you are in for a treat. NO MORE ink cartridges. It uses little plastic jars of ink that are spill proof. Take the cap off place it in the slot and the ink drains. When its full, it stops. That is. No spills, no messing around. Another great thing that they added to these bottles are that they are keyed for each color. No worry about filling the wrong spot with ink. They also say that this much ink (what came in the package) will last almost two years. Haven’t had it that long, but we’ll see. \r\nInstallation? Tanks a little while. The basics of everything is quite easy. Comes with a CD or download the files off the internet. Internet is the way I went. Take about 10-15 minutes to download and install all of the software and drivers. Not to bad.
