This appears to be a pretty common Epson ink jet complaint. Now that being said I really liked the 3640 and it held up better than the competing products I’ve owned over the decades. So, when the time came another Work Force seemed to be the logical choice.  As I’m not quite the industrial printer I once was the 4820 looked to be about the best bang for the buck available with enough capability to get by.  Setup of the new Epson was pretty run-of-the-mill, it practically begged to join my network.  My concern with this new unit is shown in the attached picture. Upon setup the machine had a tough time recognizing the paper tray and insisted it wasn’t installed correctly. After removing the feeder unit numerous times (rear) and the paper cassette looking for some packing material I missed or some form a mystery jam I found nothing. What I appeared to have discover, at least on the unit I have, is the vertical travel ‘notch/window’ for the tray to be perceived as ‘installed’ is extremely sensitive.  The output shoot has to be pulled back down while holding the paper cassette in place or else the cassette has a tendency to shift out  by a millimeter or so. Now to me that says there is some little (plastic) ‘catch’ that is just barely engaged when the paper cassette is positioned just so. I began setting it up following the online instructions I could download from their site with the Users' Manual, conveniently.\r\n\r\nWhile I was placing the printer gently where it would belong and plugging it in, a random piece popped out of it - like a screw and tiny washer or pin - from under the area where it opens to the ink tanks. It was almost as if the act of plugging it in during install snapped it out. \r\n\r\nI installed the tanks and did a test run, anyway, and felt disappointed with the color and saturation quality of my print, which barely resembled the item copied. \r\n\r\nWhat's more, the printer sits on a set of file drawers directly next to my desk, so I'm often at my computer working within a few inches of the machine - and office neighbors across the hall and two doors down could hear it with my door closed. It was that loud. \r\n\r\nAt that point, I realized this was not a printer match for me because I get migraines and this would be too big a risk at work with the loudness.\r\n\r\nThe good news is that the company was very nice, and e-mailed me a shipping label right away so I could return it ASAP for free, with a refund. \r\n\r\nGetting a hold of their customer service was easy and working with them to solve it was a breeze. I easily set up wifi direct with my iphone, but when I tried to set up the desk top that had an OS of Windows Vista and the laptop with Windows 10 I ran into problems.  After trying for over an hour I called Epson support.  He was very nice and walked me through the process.  Things were going smoothly until he said to go to Epson.com to download software.  The instructions that came with the printer said \"Note: If you are using a Mac or your computer does not have a CD/DVD drive, an Internet connection is required to obtain the product software.\"  I told him I did not have internet but I had the CD and a CD/DVD drive on both computers.  He said even with a CD you have to download software from website.  I was going to have to take devices home to download software until I realized I might be able to use my phone as a hotspot.  I figured out how to use a hotspot for the first time.  I was able to load software and drivers using my hotspot to set up laptop.  Could not set up desk top because it would not connect to a hotspot.  So dissappointed that it was not clearly stated that you had to download software from internet even if have the CD.  Another thing is that the directions clearly says not to connect printer to computer before loading software but Epson guy said to connect computer and printer with USB cable before I start downloading software.  \r\n\r\nAlso I had seen on some store websites that people had asked about copying 2-sided to 2-sided and an Epson person had said that it could be done and that on one it even said 2 to 2.  If I had I read further I would have seen where a reviewer said that it couldn't be done on the 4820.  Sure enough it cannot.  Luckily I do not have to have that function.  As long as I can print from phone or computer 2-sided is fine. \r\n\r\nI am pleased with the quality of printing.  I have only used it once. I like the large control panel.  Not for sure yet on how fast it will go through the ink.
