Support Scanners Expression Series Epson Expression 636

The product is connected with a SCSI cable and doesn't work. What should I do?

  • Perform the following steps to resolve SCSI scanner issues.

    1) Ensure that the SCSI controller card does not have an IRQ conflict with another peripheral. For instance, the AHA-1510 SCSI card uses IRQ 11 by default but can be set to use other IRQ lines if necessary. The scanner must use a unique ID number and if it is the last (or only) device on the SCSI chain, check that it is properly terminated. If necessary, toggle the terminator switch and rotate the SCSI ID dial.

Note: If you are not using the supplied SCSI card, check your SCSI controller setup utility (if available) and configure it to these settings: 5 MB Transfer Rate Disable Sync Negotiation Disable Wide Negotiation Disable Parity

Save the settings, reboot the PC and test the scanner again.

    2) Windows 95/98 may be recognizing your SCSI card as the wrong device on the wrong port. If you have DOS drivers (like EZ-SCSI) installed, remove them from the Config.Sys file. Allow Windows 95/98 to use 32-bit drivers for the SCSI controller. Ensure that the SCSI selection is chosen in the Epson Scanner Setup from Control Panel.
    3) If necessary, remove the SCSI controller driver from the Device Manager list of devices. Restart the PC and disable Plug N Play mode for the SCSI controller card.
Restart Windows and install the SCSI controller driver manually in Control Panel / Add New Hardware. See if Windows Device Manager can identify the resources of the SCSI card. If necessary, remove the "Set Configuration Manually" and "Use Automatic Settings" check marks in the SCSI controller driver Properties option. Exit Windows, reboot and see if Windows can recognize the card.
    4) Check the date on file: WINASPI.DLL. if it is 9-2-92 delete it and extract the WINASPI.DLL file version from the WINDOWS 95 disk or CD ROM.

    5) You can download Twain drivers from the EPSON Website.
