I'm having problems installing the software. What should I do?

  • See the suggestions below for your software installation type.

USB (printer connected to your computer with a USB cable)

Make sure you followed the software installation instructions on the Start Here sheet. If the installation fails, make sure the printer is turned on and the USB cable is securely connected at both ends.

If you're still having problems, disconnect the USB cable and uninstall the software. Follow the software installation instructions on the Start Here sheet to reinstall your software.

Before reinstalling the software, check for the following:
    • Make sure the printer is not connected to your computer. (You will be prompted to connect it during the installation process.) You must connect the printer to your computer at the correct time to make sure the driver is installed correctly on your computer.
    • Make sure your system meets the requirements.
    • Make sure all applications (including any screen savers, virus protectors, and firewall software) are closed.
    • Make sure you have administrative rights or software installation privileges to your computer.
    • In Windows, make sure the USB Controller is working properly in Device Manager. See your Windows help system for details.

Network (printer connected to your network hub or switch)

Make sure you followed the software installation instructions in the Network Installation Guide. If the installation fails, make sure the printer is turned on and the Ethernet cable connecting your printer to the network switch or hub is securely connected at both ends.

If you're still having problems, uninstall the software. Follow the software installation instructions in the Network Installation Guide to reinstall the software. (You must install the software on each computer that will print to the printer.)

Before reinstalling the software, check for the following:
    • Make sure your system meets the requirements.
    • Make sure all applications (including any screen savers, virus protectors, and firewall software) are closed.
    • Make sure you have administrative rights or software installation privileges to your computer.
