I'm having trouble connecting to the print server. Are WEP keys alpha-numeric or hexadecimal?

  • Some 802.11b adapters use 5 or 13 digit passwords in some cases instead of 10 or 26 digit WEP keys. In these cases, you would translate the 5 digit (for 10 digit 40-bit or 64-bit WEP keys) or 13 digit (for 26 digit 128-bit WEP keys) into hexadecimal values when configuring the print servers for WEP.

If you're having trouble connecting to the print server:

    1. Do a hard reset of the print server as follows: pull out the power adapter, then hold down the test button for 5 seconds while plugging the adapter back in. This sets the print server to 802.11b Ad Hoc mode, RF Channel 11, and SSID of Printer.

    2. Configure your wireless adapter to match these settings.

    3. Run WP-Admin and connect to the print server.

    4. Configure the print server to the settings you want.

    5. Reconfigure your wireless adapter to match the new settings.

If you hold the button down while plugging in the power, it will configure itself to the default settings temporarily. If you change the settings (to say Infrastructure mode), it will make the settings permanent, even after you recycle the power. If you don't change the settings, you can recycle the power and it will go back to the previous settings.
