Terminology Description Face angle The orientation of the club face with respect to the target direction at the time of impact. A positive number indicates an open face while a negative number indicates a closed face. V-zone The area between the line from the neck to the ball and the golf shaft to the ball when in the address position. Relative face angle The orientation of the club face with respect to the club path at the time of impact. Club path The angle of incidence in the horizontal direction. A positive club path indicates inside-out while negative club path indicates outside-in. Attack angle The angle of incidence in the vertical direction. A positive attack angle indicates an ascending blow while a negative attack angle indicates a descending blow. Natural uncock The acceleration of the club for impact with the ball. Halfway back The position where the golf club is parallel with the ground halfway through a backswing. Shaft rotation The angle at which the club shaft rotates due to twisting the wrist. Rhythm The distribution of time between the backswing and downswing. Tempo The backswing and downswing time.
