How do I scan a document so I can edit the text in word processing software?
-
You can scan a document and convert the text into editable text using a process called OCR (Optical Character Recognition).
To scan and use OCR, you can use the Document Capture Pro (Windows) or Document Capture (Mac) software. Document Capture Pro and Document Capture are included with your product.
Note: Make sure the latest versions of Document Capture Pro or Document Capture and the Epson Scan 2 OCR Component Pro (Windows) and Epson Scan 3 OCR Component (Mac) are installed. You can install the latest versions by running Epson Software Updater or downloading them from the Downloads tab on your product's support page.
OCR software cannot recognize handwritten characters, and certain types of documents or text may be difficult for OCR software to recognize, such as the following:
- Items that have been copied from other copies
- Faxes
- Text with tightly spaced characters
- Text that is in tables or underlined
- Cursive or italic fonts and font sizes less than 8 points
