I see a communication error when I start Epson Scan. What should I do?

  • Try the following for your connection type:

    USB

    • Restart your computer after installing Epson Scan.
    • Make sure your product is turned on and the USB cable is connected from your product to the computer.

    Wi-Fi or Ethernet

    • Make sure the connection type in Epson Scan is set to Network. Do the following:
      1. Make sure the product is turned on.
      2. Open Applications, open the Epson software folder, and double-click EPSON Scan Settings.
      3. If you see an EPSON Scan cannot be started window, click No. The window may appear twice.
      4. Make sure the correct product is selected.
      5. Make sure the Connection setting is set to Network and your product appears under Network Scanner Address with the correct IP address. If these settings are correct, skip the remaining steps. If the IP address for your product does not appear, go to the next step.

Note: If you don't know your product's IP address, you can print a network status sheet to obtain it.

      6. Click Add.

      7. Select the IP address that appears in the list. If more than one IP address appears, be sure to select the one that matches your product's IP address.

Note: If you have a firewall or Internet security software installed, the search feature may not find your product. In this case, select Enter address and enter the IP address manually.

      8. Click OK.
      9. Click OK again to close the Epson Scan Settings window.
