Rated 1 out of 5 by from WORST PRINTER I'VE EVER BOUGHT So disappointed with this printer. I was originally enticed by the cost saving feature of the ink tanks for my small business but I waste way more ink and paper because of the consistently poor print quality, clogged nozzles (despite regular use) and paper jamming. Simple print jobs take me hours to do because I can't get the colours right or the paper is jamming and I'm trying to fiddle with settings. I would buy ANY OTHER printer besides this one. I've had one failure (false paper jam error) and had it replaced under warranty and the second isn't any better. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS AND SAVE YOUR MONEY! I wish I had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eason printer black only printer I have alway bought HP printers. I was buying the wrong printer for so many years. When the color ran out which was way too often and expensive they won’t print in just black even though you are full of black ink.I am not sure if these printers do the same as far as when the color runs out but I am still on my first bottle of black ink after 2;years! Next I am looking into a very good quality printer for photos. I will be looking into the one or one below this one. I hope the printer will print black only when the color runs out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Day 1 Defects On day 1, awful grinding noise coming from printer - appears to be from print head/paper feeder when initialiizing a new print, cheaply made, doubt it will last more than a year. Avoid!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great printer but…, Love this printer but buyer beware…after awhile you won’t be able to use it. The ink pads fill up and it shuts itself down. You haveu to send it off have it cleaned then reset and it’s not cheap. I didn’t know about it until it happened. So BUYER BEWARE CAUSE THEY DON’T TELL YOU ABOUT THIS PART OF IT.. so keep your wallet loaded.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A detailed review fo the ET-8550 After getting repeated requests from Epson, I finally decided to submit a review for my ET-8550. This is my fourth Epson printer and I decided to purchase this one after my 8 year old XP-600 printer expired with a full waste ink box. I figured it wasn't worth sending back to Epson for service and it would be really nice to have a printer able to print up to 13x19. Ordering was a real problem as I started looking early in September 2021. There were up to 90 ships stacked up in the Port of Los Angles and Epson wouldn't allow backorders. Continual checking the web site multiple times during the day and after almost a month, I finally scored a printer. The day came and I greeted the delivery of the printer and a spare waste ink box at the door. The package had a little scuff on on corner, probably cause by another package being pushed against it but I saw no other damage. Interesting enough, I wasn't in a hurry to set it up because I thought I might be out of town for a bit but that fell through so I started the set up. For those of you who are attempting to limit your purchases from certain countries, the box was marked with Indonesia. They have been producing electronics for a while now and have a fairly good reputation. The first thing I noticed was a mildew odor in the box. As there was no water damage to the box, the odor was probably the result of spending all the time at sea. That isn't a deal breaker for me because in the Phoenix climate, I know any remaining odor will quickly fade. I also have a sensitive nose so you might not detect what I did. The box is double walled corrugated cardboard so the printer was well protected from crushing. Foam spacers provide additional protection and they were designed to use the minimal amount of foam to provide the maximum protection. Good job of package design Epson. I fished the printer out of the box and put it on a special constructed stand made just for this event. While I made the stand and I knew the measurements of the printer, it is a little disorienting to see just how big the printer is. Make sure you have room for this printer before you order it. I tracked down all the blue tape but the tape on the output paper tray was questionable. I wasn't sure how to get it off but I found you need to pull it sideways and peal it off. Downloading the software (I use Macs) was without problems and when I started the software, it walked me through the printer setup. First was the ink. For the metric challenged, 70ml is just over a quarter of a cup. That is a lot of ink and I will continue to use Epson ink for three reasons. Now the price of the ink is reasonable, with Epson ink you will be sure to get accurate color and you have far less risk of particles in the ink clogging the heads of your expensive printer. Loading the ink was simple and you have about a quarter of a bottle left after filling a tank. The priming cycle ran to completion and used about a quarter of the ink in the printer. Note to self. Use the printer enough to avoid the need for a power cleaning cycle as I suspect it uses a lot of ink and will shorten the life of the waste tank. Configuring it for WiFi went pretty much as expected. I punched in my WiFi password and it linked up. Probably it was due to the time at sea, but the first thing it wanted to do was update the software. It did this all by its self without involving the computer. Much nicer than having to do it with the computer. For me, the WiFi setup wan't complete. I have learned with other printers that the printer needs to have a fixed IP address or sometimes the computer will lose it if you power cycle the printer. I use (local ip address) as that's out of the way of servers and other dynamic devices. A little fumbling and sure enough, the setting was still there so I set it. While you can skip aligning the print heads, make sure you do it latter. The process might run about half an hour (some of the test patterns are hard to figure out) but it is an an important step for the best possible images. Naturally, I was curious about large printouts. Fortunately I had had 13x19 paper and card stock that I order about the same time I ordered the printer. The first output was a plain paper google map of our 30 acres at work. Often we have strangers wander into the office looking for something so we need a map. The output was detailed and BIG. No more piecing together 8 1/2 x 11 paper to make a replacement map! The scanner lid is split in the middle along the long side. It makes it a bit floppy but I suspect that is a feature that I will find useful if I scan bound documents. Note that the paper tray may not want to extend. DON'T force it. The paper tray will power extend and power retract so don't risk damage by forcing it. This is a nice feature because if you print and the tray isn't extended, it will automatically extend to the required length. I spent several hours trying to figure out two sided printing. On older software with the Mac, it was simply a matter of marking a check box that was out there in the open. The new software offers more options but to get them, you have to use the preset setting in the top of dialog box and set it to color on plain white paper. This is a bit of a pain because I leave double sided printing on all the time and only turn it off when I need single side printing. Now you have to set double sided for each document you print. One thing I found in the large (downloaded) instruction manual is that the printer uses ink pads to absorb the excess ink when you do borderless prints. These pads are not user replaceable and if they fill with ink, the printer needs to be returned to Epson for service. I guess I am going to avoid borderless prints even though I like them. Maybe Epson could add a feature that would only permit boarder prints when the pads are exhausted? Don't expect this to scan/copy currency. Epson designed the software to prevent this. No, I am not a counterfeiter and I don't even plan on testing the feature however at work we would like to copy the Serial numbers on $100 bills should the bank claim we gave them a counterfeit bill. Perhaps Epson could instead put the word Counterfeit on any images of currency so we could still get the serial numbers without getting a usable image. It would have been nice if the scanner could scan images larger that 8 1/2 by 14. Sometimes I run across an odd sized document that I want to scan. Currently I need to do multiple scans then use Photoshop Elements to stitch the images back together. Fortunately I don't do this often so it's not a deal breaker. Besides that, most of my scanning requires higher quality and I use an Epson Perfection V600 which has served well for several years. I am a bit surprised they still make the V600 but it is a good scanner and it would be difficult to improve on it. I haven't done any photo work, partly because I need to order more paper and Epson has limited supplies of that as well, but from previous Epson printers, I expect very lifelike images. While I haven't been doing a large amount of printing, the ink level has hardly moved. It's going to take a while before it needs refilling. I am happy with my purchase and if you have a desire to do larger than normal printing, you should consider this printer. It may be a bit on the costly side but you will quickly save that much in lower ink costs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally Was Able To Get One After checking stock for weeks, finally got this through Office Depot. It's like the printer I have been waiting for all of these years. Replacing both my Canon Pro 100 and Epson ET-3750. Love the ability to load specialty papers from the rear and have a dedicated photo paper tray, as well as printer paper. I did register my product for 2nd year warranty, but it has yet to be reflected on my account. I will have to learn settings a little better for different paper types, but so far am very pleased. Set up was long, but not hard. Did it through my phone app. Using Wi-fi and so far, so good. Love the scanner lid, it's light and flexible. With my ET-3750, I was always dropping the lid because it was so heavy. Anxious to see how this holds up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s better then one might think I’ve owned other photo printers that required 10 ink cartridges but they always gave me headaches this printer is pretty much the same quality for less and more consistent. Thank you epson for making a photo printer that uses ink bottles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic all in one photo printer This is a fantastic all in one printer for home use and photo printing. In addition to excellent fast document printing we now print all our photos at home fast and cost effective. I use with EPSON photo paper and it produces fantastic results. Do not need two printers one for documents and one for photo as this does both jobs very well. Very pleased overall.
