Rated 2 out of 5 by from Still Waiting Bought this in September 2017 on recommendation from a user. Looked pretty good. Was able to get through about 2,000 scans of 35MM BW negatives with pretty good results. After three weeks it conked out. I called technical support and they resolved the issue in about 1.5 hours on the phone and agreed to send me a new unit. (I was past the time to send back to Amazon by a few days). I received the new unit and was able to get 3 scans before it conked out as well. It was a re-furb unit. On the phone again with technical support for 1.5 hours and they agreed to send me a new USB cable. Haven't received it yet, but did happen to find one in my huge pile of legacy cables, but that didn't improve the situation. When the new cable arrives, I'll likely be on the phone again to get a third unit. Hope this one works. BTW, the software that comes with the unit is very sketchy as user input is required for every scan, so don't think you can set it to scan 12 negatives and walk away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scanner I have owned an Epson V550 flatbed scanner for a long time. I use it at home to scan LP record covers and other personal art work. when we needed a scanner to back-up images at Mom's house after she died, I was pleased to see that the V550 was still on the market. So now I have another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Scanner I bought this scanner because my old one wouldn't work with Windows 10. When I began scanning, the software was on automatic. I had a few problems with that, but then I found the setting for manual. I have been having fun with the scanner ever since. I love the extra wide strip for scanning slides and negatives. I have scanned some older negatives that are large and I have scanned some very small negatives. I can outline the negative so I get the area I want. The software includes an enhancement feature that improves dark negatives and light negatives. I LOVE the scanner. The only change I would make is I would add a strip across the dividers for the slide holder. That way, the slides could be put into the spots and removed while holding the slide holder instead of having to remove them from the scanner glass. I put some strips of removable tape across my slide holder and I am able to put the slides into the slots and remove them while holding the slide holder. That works great. The other features work great, also. I am enjoying experimenting with them. I do wish the power button was closer to the front of the scanner, though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well once ipdated I bought this few months back and hooked up on Nov 7 to my iMac running ElCapitan. It automatically connected and updated. I tried to scan photos and negatives several times and kept getting scanner error . I went to Epson site and down loaded all the drivers and updates only to get same code but then scanner kept turning off. Felt bad and almost wAlked this to trash can. I gave one last effort and restarted computer and scanner, opened scanner in system preferences and amazing everything worked. Once it connected was very easy to use and scans very well. The manual settings allow to adjust picture but what you see on screen and end result differ, so I left on automatic. Sczns are fairly slow but worth quality image at end. I set mine at 2400dpi after playing with different levels. Overall I would recommend

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice little scanner Able to scan both film and prints. Good quality on the scans. Software is barely functional, but if you understand Epson is a hardware company, then that's to be expected. Recently developed a bad pixel resulting in a black zipper on film scans. Will need to file a warranty claim

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Hardware, Software is buggy It's too hard to do a quick scan of a paper document that I'd like to convert to a PDF. I can't find an option in the software that automatically brings up a "Save As" dialog to let me name the new scan and specify where it should go. Instead, it always gets dumped to the same location with a generic name ("epsonscan001"). So it's extra steps to rename and move the file. If I create more than two or three separate pdf files in a row, Epson Scan stops working altogether and gives me an error of No Scanner Detected. The only fix I've found for this is to turn off the scanner then re-boot the computer, then turn on the scanner and proceed . When I contacted Epson support via email, I received a generic and unhelpful response that appeared to be a generic response to key words in my email rather than actually addressing my specific problems and requests. What should be a quick scan turns into a time consuming chore. When I use the scanner to get an image for Photoshop, it works well and delivers a sharp, detailed image to PS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup. Scanned about a hundred pictures for a slide show worked great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good scans but needs better software My biggest issue is you can't lock in 24x36 mm format for slide and negatives. Scans of low-lighting slides and negatives (such as concert pics) are often cropped for lighting and don't maintain 24x36 formatting. Also a number of instances where Preview picks up scans across two frames. Otherwise excellent sharpness and precise edge-to-edge luminosity (tough challenge for cheaper scanners).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent scanner You simply can't go wrong with Epson products. My scanners and printers have been nothing but Epson for over a decade now and the only reason I get a new one is when the previous one goes beyond repair (from constant use!) The V550 is fast and accurate, quieter with a "sleeker" sound. Can't recommend Epson scanners enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a step up from my old 1200 PHOTO scanner ! When my Epson 1200 finally bit the dust last month, I moved to the V550 scanner and am blown away at the improvements and performance compared to the 1200. Wow, can I say that again ? WOW !
