My printout has lines running through it when I make a copy using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder). What should I do?

  • Carefully clean the scanner glass and ADF. See below.

    Cleaning Your Product

To keep your product working at its best, you should clean it several times a year.

Caution: Do not use a hard brush, alcohol, or paint thinner to clean the product or you may damage it. Do not use oil or other lubricants inside the product or let water get inside it.

    1. Turn off the product.
    2. Unplug the power cord.

Note: Make sure to unplug the power cord when the power light is off. Otherwise, the print head does not return to the home position and you may not be able to print.

    3. Disconnect any connected cables.
    4. Remove all the paper.
    5. Open the ADF cover.

    6. Use a soft, moist, lint-free cloth (microfiber is recommended) to clean the rollers and the interior of the ADF.

Caution: Do not use a dry cloth to clean the rollers; you may damage the surface of the rollers. Let the rollers dry before using the ADF.

    7. Close the ADF cover, then open the document cover.

Caution: Be careful not to trap your hands or fingers when opening or closing the document cover.

    8. Clean the scanner glass and the areas shown below with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth (microfiber is recommended). If the glass surface is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off any remaining liquid.

Caution: Do not spray glass cleaner directly on the glass and do not press the glass surface with any force. Scratches or other damage on the glass surface can decrease the scan quality.

    9. Close the document cover.

    10. If copied or scanned images from the ADF are still smeared after cleaning it, turn off the printer using the  power button, open the ADF cover, and raise the ADF input tray.

Caution: Make sure the ADF cover is opened before raising the ADF input tray or the ADF may be damaged.

    11. Clean the area shown here.

    12. Close the ADF input tray, then close the ADF cover until it clicks into place.

    13. Clean the outer case and control panel with a soft, clean cloth moistened with a little water. If you cannot remove the dirt, try cleaning with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent.

Note: Be careful not to get water inside the product or on any electrical components. Otherwise, the product could be damaged. Do not touch the parts shown. Doing so may cause a malfunction.
