Why doesn't remote paper path switching work?

• The only time the printer can change paper paths is when the optional paper cutter has been installed on the printer.
  
  If the paper cutter is not installed, the printer would have to pull back through all the pages it had just printed and then change tractors. if you had a 20 or more page report, that would be a lot of paper being pulled back through the printer.
  
  So, the change tractor code will not work with out the optional paper cutter.
