When should I clean the area around the caps?

  • If the print head is clogged and automatic cleaning does not fix the issue, you can clean the print head and the area around the caps using the optional cleaning sticks (part number C13S090013).

    Caution:
    Before beginning the cleaning process, note the following:Do not touch any circuit boards or any parts inside the printer besides those which need to be cleaned.Always use new cleaning sticks, or dirt may be transferred into the printer.Do not touch the tip of the cleaning stick. This may reduce the cleaning effect.Touch a metal object before cleaning to discharge any static electricity.Do not use an organic solvent such as alcohol to wipe the caps, as it may damage the print head.Do not move the print head by hand. Doing so could damage the printer.If paper is loaded in the printer, remove it.

    1. On the LCD screen, select > Maintenance > Cleaning the Maintenance Parts > Wiping around the Cap. The print head moves to the cleaning position.
    2. Open the printer covers.

    3. Remove the protective piece as shown.

    4. Use a new cleaning stick to clean the drying prevention caps area as shown.





      Note: Do not press too hard on the area surrounding the caps. Doing so could damage the caps and may prevent them from functioning properly.

    5. Hold the cleaning stick in a vertical position and wipe the inner areas of the drying prevention caps as shown.

    6. Hold the cleaning stick in a vertical position and wipe the outer areas of the drying prevention caps as shown.

    7. Hold the cleaning stick in a horizontal position and wipe the edges of the drying prevention caps with the flat surface as shown.

    8. Hold the cleaning stick in a vertical position and wipe the guides as shown.



    9. If there is any lint or dust in the drying prevention caps, remove it with the tip of the cleaning stick or a pair of tweezers.

    10. Use a new cleaning stick to wipe any dirt off of the wiper.



    11. Wipe around the front of the wiper as shown.

    12. Wipe around the back of the wiper as shown.

    13. Wipe the edges of the wiper as shown.

    14. Use a new cleaning stick to wipe any dirt off of the suction caps.

    15. Hold the cleaning stick in a vertical position and wipe the outer areas of the suction caps as shown.

    16. Hold the cleaning stick in a horizontal position and wipe the edges of the suction caps with the flat surface as shown.

    17. Hold the cleaning stick in a vertical position and wipe the guides shown here.



    18. If there is any lint or dust in the suction caps, remove it with a cleaning stick or a pair of tweezers.

    19. Replace the protective piece as shown.

    20. Close the printer covers.

    21. Select OK to return the print head to its home position.
