Rated 4 out of 5 by from My second V600 After two moves and many years of use, it was time to get a fresh start with a new Epson scanner. Looking forward to many useful years of great quality results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Bought this one to replace a V500 that died while in use. I will say this scanner is considerably quieter. Haven't scanned many images yet but on some I notice a blue halo around the outermost fringes of the scan area. So far no impact to image quality.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You never know what it might do or why it did it After just receiving the product I wanted to start using it. That dimmed rapidly. When I tried to open the cover it didn't open with what I thought was enough force, which shouldn't be much. I lifted the V600 up by pulling on the cover. I remembered reading a review from somewhere that mentioned trouble with getting the cover open so I was hesitant about applying too much force for fear of breaking the cover. Not finding that review and having had the V600 for about a week and still not having used it, I said I was going to get the cover open even if I did break it. I got it open by holding the body of the V600 with one hand and pulling on the cover with the other. I had to pull a lot harder than should ever been required. Every opening after that was done as expected. The initial opening caused me to think the cover was held shut by some sort of a bonding substance and once that bond was broken the cover opened easily. It takes a while to learn how to use the V600. It took me longer than necessary to figure out why it wouldn't turn on and I still don't know why. After using it for one day I tried to turn it on the next day and it wouldn't turn on and all I had done the night before was turn it off. After much investigating, the switch, the cords, and the power supply, it finally came on and I have no idea why. But that is only the first part of the action mysteries demonstrated to me by this scanner. Hoping to eradicate all the concerns that follow after experiencing a couple of these problems I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. That didn't seem to help. I was using a Windows 10 application. I was prescreening/scanning only 35mm slides to my computer so repetitive action was the norm for me but not the scanner. It became a guessing game as to what I would see for a scanned product. There were times that a black line border would show on any edge of the of scanned product; never always in the same location or size. I would rescan the slide and get the same black border line results no matter which program I used or how I positioned the slide until.... The last day I used the scanner a reproduction had this black border line across the top so I said what would happen if I turned it upside down? It scanned okay so I found the slide that I could not scan correctly from the day before, no matter what I tried, and, who knows why, this time it scanned correctly. There were times I would attempt to scan and I would get an error message that the scanner could not communicate with the computer. Turning the scanner on and off three times seemed to cure this problem for that scan. This problem was a random happening. There were times I would attempt to scan a rack of slides and see them copied upside down or turned left or right from the way I had placed them into the slide holder. Sometimes using color restoration made the orange sunrise or sunset show as green so I didn't know whether to use color restoration or not so I would decide after reviewing the scanned product. When the scanner operated properly it scanned slides in a very rewarding way. Showing the scanned product to be what I desired. Some of these slides are 50 plus years of age so I used the Digital ICE Technology option for many of these slides. If one looks at the cost for the V600 it might seem to be an almost acceptable trade off for the inconsistent results, however, before I fully believe that I am going to give the Epson V600 back to the store where I purchased it and think about it. I have about 10,000 slides I want to digitize. I want a scanner that works properly all the time or at least until the scanning light burns out. And the scanner I had might have worked properly all the time because it might be more a problem with the software and not the scanner. The scanner works the same way all the time; responding to the information sent to it. The only thing that differs is the information sent to the scanner. Yes, I will probably buy another and see how that new one operates. At least I have already been exposed to many of the nuances of the V600 so the disappointment might not be viewed as shocking. As I tell anyone or everyone, "I am perfect. Aren't you?" Nothing is and it is how we accept imperfections that matters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality scans and easy to use. Having used other scanners, the V600 is definitely a gem. The majority of my scans have been 35mm film and it's doing a great job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from EPSON V600 SCANNER Following the directions I tried to set up the scanner but was unsuccessful. Directions very sketchy. Mostly just pictures. Could not get the disc to load or get the software to load from the web site. I will try to get some Epson help over the phone. Very frustrating trying to deal with this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from simple to use and great for negatives and slides This scanner met my expectations: it is great for both negatives and slides. My only reservation concerns the documentation provided: the electronic version of the manual is not up to date and should describe the scanner as it is now. However the use of the scanner is rather intuitive and this is not a major issue.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't physicaaly try to open the cover Have not used the machine because I just took it out of the box so I cannot rate its operational qualities but I can surely rate the supplied or lack there of informational qualities. Obviously, I will review the operating instructions and, hopefully, all my concerns will be satisfied. If I hadn't read somewhere else how someone wrote, "Don't try opening the cover or you might break the cover:, I might have tried more force than I did to get the cover open. There should be a warning attached to the cover to not open the cover by lifting or a notice that tells a person the cover will not open unless electrical power has been applied. Or maybe there is another way to open the cover but I can't be sure. Customer support does not list a toll free number. If you call Epson for support you pay for the call. Many favorable reviews by others and I trusted their judgement, thus my reason for buying this scanner. With time I hope to replace my one star rating with a five star. more familiarity with the product will determine that outcome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job well Bought it to scan old photos and negatives. Works. very well. Software is very efficient, easy to use. Minor issue witb some sort of oil/lubricant probably from factory kept spattered on the glass. Had to wipe the glass every scan. Negative holder attachment should have integrated into the inside the upper cover as older model.
