Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-build and works fine Bought a while ago but did not have a chance to use it. Used so far for scanning documents. Working well but better instructions would have been helpful for scanning documents and saved me time (included manual was for pictures).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile Scanner Epson has a solid product in this scanner, however, it does have a learning curve. Setting up is easy. But you must have SilverFast software installed to really use it. I made one basic scan flatbed on a photo and it was excellent with no breaking. However, my project I bought the scanner for is 800 slides from 40 years ago; I finally, after looking at a lot of Silverfast videos and reading manuals over and over, figured out how to scan the slides. The process is slow, but accurate. Lots of work to go, but it does a good job. I decided to use the flatbed as it was more versatile than buying an expensive slide scanner, which I would not need after this project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a Quality Scan I use this scanner to scan negative and positive film. It scans all of them without a problem. The scan then allows me to work the scanned photo on other photo enhancement software. I do not need to look any further for a better scanner.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Used to have great features The Epson V800 used to have a wonderful feature - automatically recognizing all twelve slides in the slide tray and scanning them individually. With the latest EpsonScan 2, the scanner no longer has that feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every bit as good as my late lamented V700 My 9-year-old V700 Photo scanner, the best piece of electronic equipment I've ever owned, suddenly seized up a couple of weeks ago after >20,000 superb photo scans, and I replaced it (also from B&H) with this updated V800. The latter is, thankfully, essentially identical from the user's perspective, and so far I am every bit as pleased with it. I am not tech-savvy but it was a simple, quick, fail-safe installation and there have been no problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Epson Perfect V800 Review. I bought this two weeks ago and am about . I’m new to scanning but read the book by Steinhoff as well as Segal prior to starting. I’m about 3000 scans in at this point on color negatives. I’m using an Epson V800 and scanning using Silverfast Ai Archive. I stanning to HDRi archive at this point. On some days encounter frequent freezes in the middle of batch scanning. It’s unclear if this is an Epson issue or Silverfast. It requires me to exit Silverfast, shut down the scanner, and restart everything. Hope you and your staff are safe. I'm not sure the plastic on the film holder is useful as it requires close attention to remove the dust. Overall I like the product so far but wish the freezes would not occur. I also plan to buy a second film holder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing scanner I have just finished scanning 2000 slides, some dating back 80 years. This scanner did a great job in record time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but versatile. Not many options today for a scanner that will do slides, 35mm and 6x6 film and pictures. Fortunately this scanner will do all of that. The pluses - it will deliver great results, especially with slides. The Epson Scan software is easy to use (I was scanning in 15-minutes after it was up and running) To be fair, I did have to download the latest version updates, but once that was done everything connected and worked as planned. And the results a beautiful. The minuses - the dust removal settings struggle a bit and if you set them to "high" the occasionally odd things will happen (I had a few pupils register as dust so it tried to "correct" that, as well as an entire row of port holes on a ship all got masked and "fixed". Honestly the best thing to do with dust is to clean the slides before then get scanned as best you can. Another thing is the optional Silverfast software - the learning curve was much steeper than the Epson Scan and considering the results I was getting I just gave up on it for now. So bottom line, very happy with the way it works and the images are fantastic. BTW, I ended up choosing the V800 over the V850, but if you are going to do a ton of work then having the extra slide and film holders will help make the process more efficient - because scanning takes a while at high settings and it helps to be be able to clean and load the next holder while waiting. I can't speak to the image quality of the 850, but I find it hard to imagine it could be that much better.
