Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs I dropped my rating by one star just for the following reasons. 1. The 35mm film holder seems flimsy and I wonder how long it will last 2. The clips to secure the film holder rails easily become un-clipped with noticing resulting in less than perfect scans. 3. During scanning there are often long periods of "Scanner not responding" during a scan but given time things return to normal. 4. The Epson scan software is a bit basic. 5. Even though the included Silverfast scanning software is free and offers more features, I feel this is a poor product and has great difficulty recognizing the negative areas in the 35m film holder, every image needs to be manually adjusted. 6. Using the ICE dust and scratch removal system results in scans that are way to long, increasing scan times by almost 400% Otherwise a superb scanner for the price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Transitioned easily from previous scanner I had a fair amount of scanning experience over the years, scanning medium- and large-format film positives (transparencies) with a Microtek i900 scanner. When it stopped working about 4 months ago the only affordable scanner I could find that will do 8 x 10" transparencies was the Epson Perfection V800. I ordered it and it arrived quickly. In no more than 1-1/2 hours I unpacked it, read a bit of the instructions, and decided to try it on an 8 x 10". I was a little confused about what input to give it, but even the first one turned out great. The colors were a bit faded on the original, but I hardly had to correct it after scanning it. I've done 5 x 7", 4 x 5", and 6 x 7cm transparencies on it many times now. I still have to clean up some dust and scratches, but the fast-warm-up surprises me every time. I should read more of the instructions but haven't hit enough snags to make me do so!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from V800, great scanner as advertised Scanner was very securely packaged. Easy to setup, loaded software with no issues, and got started using it right away. Pretty easy to follow the instructions included.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's beautiful when it works. I used the Epson Perfection V800 like a workhorse, mostly on 35mm color transparencies, almost every day for a couple of weeks with the SilverFast software. When it worked it was beautiful. I particularly like the infrared scratch reduction (iSRD). During each session, however, the scanner would crash (lose connection) several times just after completing the iSRD pass. I updated all the software, both Epson and SilverFast. It crashed less, but still crashed. After a couple of weeks the scanner stopped producing beautiful scans. The images became a series of fine vertical streaks of colors from the image being scanned. Both the Epson and SlverFast software produced the same result. The scanner had failed and had to be exchanged per the warranty. The second scanner is working well, but occasionally produces a vertical lavender line on the left side of the glass platten for the full length of the entire 35mm slide frame holder, thus marking 4 of the 12 slides. I updated the software again, and so far no line. So, yes, I love the scanner when it works. I just hope it continues to do so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scanning photos and negatives I bought this to scan negatives - nitrate, safety film, and glass. It works fine once I figured out all the settings to adjust but it is really slow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Scanner I bought this several months ago to for scanning in old photos for use in a book. It is easy to use and provides great quality scans even on photos that are not in good shape. I will be using it to also archive old family slides, etc. but haven't done that yet. Set-up was easy right out of the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Capable Unit The V800 installed easily and without issue. Unlike a few of the Epson printers I've bought, it hasn't had any issues. Let's hope that continues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably the best scanner on the market Only Epson for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great For Recreating the Past from Old Negatives Purchased this scanner so could scan a large amount of old b/w larger format negatives. Would have cost a fortune to have them scanned professionally. This allows me to scan using my own settings, and with the use of photo editing software, I am getting decent family pictures off of negatives 70+ years old. Don't know where or what happened to a lot of the original photos, so being able to reproduce these is priceless!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Outstanding results, once you purchase film holders for V700 I will make this short. This is an outstanding machine that creates superb images in very short amounts of time. Film holders supplied with unit are terrible. Glass/plastic inserts intended to flatten film negatives are dust traps. Once I purchased holders for V700 scanner, all was well. Another option to overcome the poorly designed film holders is to scan directly on scanner bed, which is, mercifully, possible on this excellent machine.
