Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the Scanner but... the film holders are made with plexiglass and they are full of static and attract dust. Almost impossible to get a clean scan, therefore, there is a great deal of touch up in Photoshop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scanner Is Great But Have had this scanner for a few years. Problems started when I bought an Epson XP-8500 MFP. There were constant conflicts with the OCR and the Epson Scan and Epson Scan 1 Twain Driver.. The Epson OCR, to be kind, "is not very good". Uninstalled Epson's Scan 1 OCR. Cannot configure Scan 1 to use Fine Reader OCR. Still a few issues with V800 Twain driver, I have a few work arounds to get by. The V800 Scanner is great when there are no issues. Epson Tech support did not help at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Scanning 35mm Slides I bought this to scan my old 35mm slides. It exceeded my expectations. I was able to capture the color and resolution of the originals and now have them preserved digitally.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mostly good but some issues My 700 died right in the middle of a project so I needed to replace it fast. I liked the 700 so I bought the 800 — it's mostly good. Sadly, it has the exact same capabilities of the 700 with the exception of some lenses that help when scanning slides or negatives. In the 700, the filament had to warm up if you left the scanner sitting too long and that was a small pain as you waited for "the scanner is warming up." Now, with LEDs, there is no waiting and I really enjoy that. However, the scanner does turn off and that's a bit of a pain but the software that comes with the scanner does let you increase the time before the scanner turns off. The software is kind of sketchy but it works and does the job. One big disappointment is that the claimed 4800 and 6400 dpi is a lot of whooeee. Nothing near that level of resolution. Without doing invented pixels, look for about 800 on photos and about 1800 on slides/negatives Another issue are the holders for negatives. They've done two things good and one thing bad on these: The good: They've increased the thickness of the plastic so they are sturdier and they've given them some "feet" that lets you vary the height of the unit so if you need to raise or lower the item to the platen, you can. The bad is that they now have some "mostly" transparent plastic that the slide is pushed against to maintain a good flatness of the negative. Normally I'd cheer this but the quality of the plastic is not very good and there is a bit of cloudiness to the transparency. I read one review that they discovered some chromic aberration because of this but I did not. Due to the poor quality of this plastic, it would be very easy to scratch this. Over time I expect the cloudiness to increase. The choice to use such cheap plastic is a big big shame and limits the potential use and lifespan of these film holders. The slide holders do not have this plastic and remain very good. The Epson Scan software that comes with any Epson scanner is serviceable but I noticed pronounced distortion during the scan making rectangles look a bit like parallelograms. Fortunately this comes with SilverFast and that is good software. I maintain my use of Silverfast AI software and use that which is the best scanning software around albeit with some issues with the UI. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd have purchased this if I'd known how far off the official resolution was compared to the real resolution and the issues with the negative holders are very damaging. However, I've used Epson for some 20 years and I'm not sure what the alternatives are at this point. I would recommend that people do some searching before purchasing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for ... I did a fair bit of research about what is available, and found this item to be among the "best". For instance, many cheaper manufacturers/models had some very sketchy reviews about things like color shifting (you get what you pay for). I have literally hundreds of slides I want to preserve, so doing them one at a time is out of the question. The slide holder speeds the job, doing 12 at a time. I can set the scan up at high resolution, go away and do something else and let the scanner and software do their work. At first, I found the EpsonScan software easy and relatively intuitive. However, I started noticing that with some slides it can't distinguish between portrait and landscape presentation. Maybe I'm just dense, but I can't find a way to tell it "do it the other way, please". Although it's less intuitive and a bit slower to use, The included SilverFast software seems more flexible

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super fast. Trouble-free. Easy to use. This was an upgrade for me. My prior Epson V550 performed flawlessly but super high resolution scans took time. Step in V800 and amazed how much faster. Also I can get 2400 and higher dpi on full sheet photos (not just cropped images like other machines do). This re-conditioned product looks and works as NEW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality pictures, easy to use, fast and dependable I have used it for a year, primarily on thousands of slides and a number of photos. It was easy to setup and operate. The finished product is superb and easy to bring into the computer. It is a good product and easily does all it is supposed to do

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great scanner......bad software I am scanning all different sorts of media and have found that the scanner does a very nice job. My only complaint is the software. The Epson softwares interface looks like it was created in the 90's and is very clunky. It does do a decent job if you have a clean image to scan. The included 3rd party software is certainly more comprehensive but again seems outdated and there is no support to speak of unless you want to make a long distance call to the UK. Epson phone support was terrible and they even gave me the incorrect information.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Software Is Difficult The software is extremely difficult. I should have sent my negatives and slides to a scanning company.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs I dropped my rating by one star just for the following reasons. 1. The 35mm film holder seems flimsy and I wonder how long it will last 2. The clips to secure the film holder rails easily become un-clipped with noticing resulting in less than perfect scans. 3. During scanning there are often long periods of "Scanner not responding" during a scan but given time things return to normal. 4. The Epson scan software is a bit basic. 5. Even though the included Silverfast scanning software is free and offers more features, I feel this is a poor product and has great difficulty recognizing the negative areas in the 35m film holder, every image needs to be manually adjusted. 6. Using the ICE dust and scratch removal system results in scans that are way to long, increasing scan times by almost 400% Otherwise a superb scanner for the price
