Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to set up This is a great scanner, if you can get it to scan. For the life of me I never understand why software designers make machines so incredibly difficult to simply do the first thing they are designed to do. This machine is nearly impossible to set up and get running. Great that it has complex security features, but could they please let that be an option that is easy to choose, so the user can decide for themselves whether they want super complex and difficult security measures that make the machine impossible to get running unless you have a computer science degree? How about plug it in, select the scanner on Bluetooth, scan simply to and from your computer. Easy easy. How hard is that to design?!?!?!? If the user wants to go down the rabbit hole of high security WiFi connections, they simply check that box and off they go into window wonderland. Why this product requires the complexity out of the box, that will perplex those who are not so savvy with computers, is beyond me. Big fail...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this scanner love this scanner. It portable if I need, Itsd Light weight, it the best piece of equipment I use daily. It scans both sides , it it super easy to use and I am a fan of epson products due to the ink cost, and the purchase prices. You cannot go wrong with this personal desktop version scanner ws500

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast and great quality scans... I rarely write product reviews. I picked this scanner up several weeks ago. I use it strictly for home use. My goal is to digitize much of the documents I've stored in the past in file cabinets and boxes. I dreaded doing that task in the past using a flat bed scanner so I successfully put it off for years. This scanner makes the chore very easy. It is early November and I figured this digitizing chore might take me most of the upcoming winter. After using the Epson ES-500W scanner for one week, I may be finished with the basic task of transfer old paper files by the end of the week. I can't speak of how this scanner might work under the heavy load of typical office-size tasks. To give one a sense of the magnitude of my tasks, I have 8-10 file boxes (each of which might hold one half the number of files as a 'typical office file cabinet drawer) and one two-drawer file cabinet. In other words, not a lot compared to most offices. But this scanner made my task so much easier. A few other notes. If it detects a folder piece of paper it might stop, thinking that two sheets have tried to pass through. It is necessary to remove any staples holding paper together. In my experience it handles most types of paper, in most situations very easily. It is easy to unload any paper jams and pick up scanning again where one left off. I use it with an iMac and the macOSX operating system. I could use macOSX's Image Capture software with the device, but the Epson software works just as well or better in my mind, so I use that. Set up was easy and connecting to my wireless network was simple as well. I did need to initially use a USB cable connection from printer to my computer to set up the wireless. It took me less than 10 minutes and that was mostly handling the physical hardware and connections. The product is actually smaller than what I expected from the photos. It folds up compactly in a neat trick of clever engineering. But it obviously is bigger than a portable scanner. This was well worth what I paid for it and has saved me time and money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WORST! I bought this and it not only was the hardest device to connect, it NEVER worked, kept giving a paper jam error when no paper was in. I called to return this for a refund and received confusing instructions from Epson AND I have to PAY to ship their defective machine back. Great fun in a pandemic. Epson, I will never buy your products again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wireless Setup The wireless setup process is very difficult due to 2.4 vs 5 ghz.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as fast as I expect I bought the scanner a couple of weeks ago for business, because of the reviews that I read and the app has problems communicating very often as well as when it does scan, it only scans a couple pages of pages at a time while the images take a while to show up.
